What's the Point of Under 1000 Tournaments?

Almost everybody I was matched with was still significantly higher than me in rank, I had absolutely no chance of winning against them.

You were playing in an Under 1000 tournament but you resigned all six of games at only the eighth move or less.

That's too bad. You weren't lost in all of them.

If you had kept playing, some of the games would probably have gone against you but others would have turned around.

They were all significantly higher ranked.

I thought they'd pit me against people of similar rank.

Daily tournaments are not like live arena tournaments.

AbbyTheButcher

They don't do daily tournaments for people of lower ranks?

I don't think there are any tournaments specifically for players rated under 400.    If you play in other tournaments for those rated under 1000, you might lose all your games at first but you will hopefully learn something from each game and can apply it going forward.  Eventually you will start winning some games and work your way up the ranks.

Same thing would happen to me if I played against a person. So I just play against bots, engines and chess computers. I really do not care to play against a person.

Hi, this isn’t an official cc tournament but I just created a tournament for players rated under 600 that you’re welcome to join! https://www.chess.com/tournament/under-600-daily-tournament

Also, it’s fine if you want to play against bots, but playing real people is more fun and real people play differently than bots.

You should try to play every game through to the end.  You never know how things will end up.

That's terrible advice. I hate people who play on when they're down to K & a P or 2 vs Q or R

I am playing in an under 1000 and an under 1300 atm. I am losing almost every game, but I have learnt SO much from the opportunity to practice. I have been able to put into practice moves that I had only done in lessons or puzzles before, like revealed check, rook attack, king attack, knight fork etc. My reading of the board and concentration have improved and I have become a lot better at spotting threats. I use the analysis board a great deal and it's so good for trying out new things. The results look bad on paper but the gains have been huge.

Not everyone can be world champ. There's always room at the bottom.
