when do tournaments start?

I'm fairly new here and I want to join a tournament. But I don't understand the technical meaning of "asap". When the tournament states it will start "asap", does it mean when the player quota is filled? Or if the player quota is not filled then how long will the host wait to start the game. Basically, im asking if there is a general guideline that tournaments follow. I don't want to join a tournament and wait 2 weeks or more for it to start. Thank you for any input on this topic.

I've not joined a tournament, but so far as I know, could you join and if it does not start promptly enough to suit you, could you not simply withdraw before the start?

"asap"  Means 'As Soon As Possible'.  If it is not possible to start before the quota is achieved, then the host will wait an infinite amount of time.

ps.  Unwilling to merely wait 2 weeks or more for an online (correspondence) tournament to start?  Hmm, maybe they're not for you, as these tournaments can take years to complete.   I think much of the point is to enter many of them, so that you're occupied playing opponents rather than waiting.

Even a lightning paced 24 hr/move one for a typical 60 move (120 tempi) game and you all play your matches simultaneously, is likely to take around four months to finish.

Tournaments on auto-start will start when the quota is filled.

Whether on manual or auto-start, the tournament director can manually start a tournament if there are more than two players.

The maximum registration period is 90 days, after which the tournament is deleted.

thanks for the input, but maybe i didnt explain myself propperly. i know what asap means (lol), i was referring to any technical meaning to it on this site if there was one. And i dont mind the long correspondence games, ive been playing them for years. i just wanted to get into a tournament as soon as possible since i was unable to until i had 5 online games completed. Now they are completed and i just want to start play "asap" (lol). That's all. Thanks.
