EternalChess

Fly?! thats expensive.. just for a tournament!

Now we know you make alot from chess.com, considering your gonna fly when you could drive for 4 hours :P

southwest, $59 each way. that might be cheaper than gas :) plus if you value your time at $20 an hour, that pays for itself.

That seems cheap to me, what would a bus ticket be ? I had always thought a train ticket from say Lisbon to Madrid would be cheaper than flying but it isnt !  So, why would anyone go by train which takes a LOT longer ?

Carefull with the police there...

I you are visiting watch the speed limit.....lol

I was thinking of going as an unrated player, admission is free Cool

How hard would it be to take Interstate 5 pick me up in Oroville, then continue

on Hwy 70 to Reno.

Been there once with a friend from chico who was playing in the A Section, 20yrs ago. Saw the masters and grandmaster, all sitting around  the same table.

Could be fun.

I heard it's the best tournament in America! Although it should be noted, I heard this from the mild mannered and humble Jerry Weikel, who runs the tournament.

 Erik,

You staying for the entire tournament, or just the speed tournie?  I won the under 1600 section last year and didnt know until the next day.  Didnt take me long to give the money back to the great State of Nevavda.

WhiteEagle

I wish there would be a chess tournament in Canada some day!

erik

just doing the speed event. have to be home saturday night.

EternalChess

Plane is that cheap?! thats surprising..

And at the second last post.. There are tournaments in Canada.

dpruess

i took the bus there once from oakland-- it was about 20 each way, subsidized by the casinos i suspect. and, in my opinion, the two tournaments put on annually by mr weikel (plus his family and a nice woman from the sands named barbara), the far west open and the western states open, are very nicely done tournaments, among the best in the us.
