Writing moves

Soon I will be attending my first tournament, and I was wondering if I should write my moves down as I play. Is this a standard fot tournaments?

What is the time control? I do not write down moves for any tournaments G/30 or faster. I need to use all my time to think! Wink

Some tournaments actually require it, though.

The time controll is 1 hour for every 30 moves. I know this is customary according to FIDE rules, but this obviously isn't FIDE!

That's a pretty odd time control, I don't think that's a common FIDE control, never heard of it.

But since that is a long game, you are probably required to write down your moves.

Ok, thanks, just trying to be prepared.

I'm assuming this is a USCF Tournament. USCF rules clearly state (5th Edition Rulebook : Section 15A-F) that for non-scholastic events, you have to write the moves down (either before or after the move is played) UNTIL either player has less than 5 minutes on the clock.

Failure to comply can result in the TD deducting 5% of the total time-allocation from your clock. I have enforced this recently as TD as well as requested a TD to do this to my opponent on many instances, so yeah, I think you had better be prepared to follow the rule.

After hearing all this, I think I will write my moves down whether it is required or not.

One point I thought of later: you'll have to write them down if you want to know that you've made it to the 30th move, so that you have extra time.

Most time conrols are 90min 36 moves 20 min quick play finish both players write all the moves down as to not give 1 player an advantage and to count the move if you have only 5 mins you are exempted form this rapid play because to whole game is a maximum of59min 59sec the only thing that matters is the result
