Hey, chess fans! Remember May? Well, before it recedes any further into the mists of time, let's shine a light on all the cool stuff that happened around the site last month...

Web

Learning Themes

  • We made several changes to ensure Dark Mode looks good in move lists and analysis.
  • The menu for Puzzles Learning mode now arranges tactical themes in alphabetical order. 😍
  • Huge effort went into our new integrated Play page!
  • Added offline alerts for when someone challenges you to a Puzzle Battle!
  • You will now see a count of remaining characters to site-wide chat, if you approach the 500-character limit for a single post.
  • Also in the world of Chat, you can now hover on a message to see when it was sent!
  • Use links from saved analysis to create chess diagrams via the editor (in addition to regular game links like always)...

  • We removed outdated Lessons leaderboards
  • Improvements and fixes were implemented for Daily Chess Analysis mode.
  • We tweaked our horizontal-style move lists, allowing for more use of color to highlight moves.
  • We improved the look and size of the move-quality glyphs.
  • Added a way to subscribe to ChessTV email notifications right from ChessTV.
  • The images used for Quick Links on your Home page were improved.
  • Many cosmetic and other improvements were made to the Chess Today page.
  • We optimized the search function in Master Games
  • Also, we added a fun new game that lets you pit your own custom starting set-up vs an opponent's: Automate! You set 'em up. Stockfish knocks 'em down. The best starting configuration wins!
  • We did lots of work on some interesting upcoming releases and feature updates, including a fresh look for Lessons and soooo much more... Please stand by!

Android

And on the Chess - Learn & Play app...

  • On your device, many links to website content and features may be opened via the app instead!
  • Open Challenges made a come-back to the app's new Play screen!
