Chess.com is excited to announce the upcoming CryptoChamps tournament powered by Coinbase, an event featuring star personalities from the world of cryptocurrencies. The event will happen on June 12 and 13, starting at 10 a.m. Pacific/19:00 CEST. The total prize fund will be $25,000 and participants will get to choose their preferred charity institution to donate the money to.

Among the confirmed participants are the President of Basketball Operations for the Philadelphia 76ers, Daryl Morey, "The Pomp Podcast" host Anthony Pompliano, Civic and SiliconCape founder Vinny Lingham, and many other important players from the crypto world.

Chess and crypto fans can look forward to watching some of the greatest strategists and visionaries in the modern financial world tackle a game whose roots extend to the ancient world.

Daryl Morey, Anthony “Pomp” Pompliano, and Vinny Lingham will be participating in CryptoChamps.

Cryptochamps will be a knockout tournament based on the popular PogChamps format with players advancing to eight-player Championship and Consolation brackets after one round of match play. Each match will be infused with high stakes as victory or defeat will directly impact bracket placement and advancement for both players.

IM Daniel Rensch, WFM Alexandra Botez, and GM Daniel Naroditsky will be providing commentary. The commentators have been coaching the players over the past month. An inside look from a coaching session between Botez and TheStockGuy indicates that both the commentators and the players will be eager to engaged in plenty of trash talk and banter in their games!

Both chess and crypto have experienced a lot of community growth in 2020 and 2021 as new forms of finance and ancient forms of gameplay have seen heightened interest during this pandemic year. There is a lot of overlap between the chess and crypto communities, and for good reason, Jack Maller, CEO of Zap.com, explains how crypto and chess both satisfy the human need to be engaged in deep and meaningful activities that exceed one self.

Here is the complete list of participants and the as yet declared charities they will be supporting. For more information about the participants and detailed information about the CryptoChamps format see the guide.
