NM Ryo Chen from Texas won the first-ever ChessKid Youth Speed Chess Championship on Saturday, July 25. Ryo triumphed against seven other incredibly talented 10-and-under youth players in this eight-player knockout event.

His opponent in the finals, FM Marco Materia from France, scored several wins but couldn't compete against Ryo's remarkable positional skills, a rarity in one so young.

FM Mike Klein (AKA FunMasterMike) recounts the full finals in detail on ChessKid.com, including this majestic positional effort.

These youth players collected probably the largest paydays of their chess lives. For first place, Ryo collected a total of $1,800 across all matches.
