Scotch Game: Classical Variation
1.e4 e5 2.Nf3 Nc6 3.d4 exd4 4.Nxd4 Bc5
In the Classical defense to the Scotch, Black develops the bishop to a good square and attacks the d4-knight.
Pros:
- Black develops rapidly
- In many lines, Black can attack f2 quickly by ...Qh4 or ...Qf6
- White doesn't get a chance to play e4-e5, attacking a knight
Cons:
- 5.Nxc6 usually results in doubled pawns for Black
- The bishop can be exposed on d5
