Bio

Alexander Petrov was a Russian chess master, composer, and writer. Considered one of the first Russian chess masters, Petrov became one of the best Russian players when he was still a young man. He was the author of the first chess handbook in Russian, which was published in 1824. He also analyzed the opening that now carries his name, the Petrov Defense (also called the Russian Defense).
