Gregory Serper is an American grandmaster and chess author who emigrated from Uzbekistan in 1996. In 1985, Serper was invited to join the prestigious Botvinnik-Kasparov chess school. Three years later, he came in third place in the 1988 World Junior Chess Championship, scoring the same as GM Joel Lautier, GM Vassily Ivanchuk, and GM Boris Gelfand. He was also part of the Uzbek team that won the 1992 Chess Olympiad, and in 1999 Serper won the World Open Tournament.
