Bio

GM Anthony Miles was a British chess grandmaster who peaked in the 1970s and '80s. Miles was, in fact, the first English-born player to become a GM, doing so in 1976. In 1985 he was the ninth-highest rated player in the world.

Miles was known for his unusual style of play, most famously displayed in a win in 1980 over the reigning world champion GM Anatoly Karpov.
