This is the official 2022 Chess.com Daily Chess Championship. Participants will play 22 games at one time (one as Black, one as White per opponent) at the time control of one day per move in 12-player sections. Please anticipate the challenging schedule; the timeout rate in this tournament is consistently high due to the demanding schedule. Only the section winner(s) advance.
This tournament is expected to complete late in 2022.
Opening databases and opening books are permitted in Daily Chess, but the use of engines and tablebases is never permitted. All section winners will be subjected to fair-play analysis.

First of all, apologies for the delay! There were so many great entries that it took us some extra time to go through them all. After careful review, we've identified the very best submissions from all four categories.
To make things smoother (and fairer) for the next round, please note that we'll be limiting 'Best Game' entries to one game per user. So think carefully about your best game before submitting it!

The 2022 Daily Chess Championship Starts In ~28 Hours
Hello to all 32,000 fine people who are playing in this year's Daily Chess Championship! We are THRILLED to see such interest in this event and look forward to many exciting games and lots of friendly competition.
As the 2022 Daily Chess Championship's launch is upon us, I want to share a few notes. First and foremost, this is a "no vacation" tournament so you WILL FORFEIT in any game if you do not move within 24 hours of receiving an opponent's move. Do make sure that you log in daily starting on January 1st to make your moves. It would also be wise to turn on daily chess notifications at https://www.chess.com/settings/notifications to make sure that you don't miss any moves. It's also very important to have these notifications turned on if you win your section as subsequent rounds will begin automatically once all games in all sections are completed. It's easy to miss the start of the next round if notifications are off.
As noted in the description, the tournament is demanding, and on January 1st, the server will start all of the games in your section - 22 in total. If the schedule of 22 games at one time seems overwhelming and you no longer wish to play, now is the time "Withdraw" in the upper right at https://www.chess.com/tournament/2022-chess-com-daily-chess-championship.
That said, we certainly hope you do play and have a great time. Here are a few common questions that we get as the tournament gets underway:
- Games will start early on January 1st no earlier than 12:00 a.m. PT but likely several hours later. The starting process with our tournament setup is manual so do be patient as staff sort things out and start the tournament.
- It will take multiple hours for the server to create all the games so don't worry if you see the tournament started, but your games have not yet begun.
- Every time your opponent moves, you have 24 hours to respond. You may use all of your 24 hours or none of it. It is completely at your discretion.
- If any players forfeit on time without moving (and we do typically see plenty of forfeits), it will not affect either players' rating. Once the game is underway, forfeits on time will affect rating.
