William Shakespeare was an English playwright and poet, considered one of the greatest writers of all time. The son of a wool merchant, he married a woman older than him, Anne Hathaway, very young.  He moved to London, where he gained fame and popularity in his work; first under the protection of the Earl of Southampton, and later in the theatre company of which he himself co-owned, Lord Chamberlain's Men, which was later called King's Men, when James I took it under his patronage.

William Shakespeare fue un dramaturgo y poeta inglés, considerado uno de los más grandes escritores de todos los tiempos. Hijo de un comerciante de lanas, se casó muy joven con una mujer mayor que él, Anne Hathaway.  Se trasladó a Londres, donde adquirió fama y popularidad en su trabajo; primero bajo la protección del conde de Southampton, y más adelante en la compañía de teatro de la que él mismo fue copropietario, Lord Chamberlain's Men, que más  tarde se llamó King's Men, cuando Jacobo I la tomó bajo su mecenazgo.

ROMEO AND JULIET SYNOPSIS

The story of Romeo and Juliet has antecedents in Greek mythology and literature and in some medieval legends. During the fifteenth and sixteenth centuries it was the subject of multiple versions, but it was Shakespeare who infused it with a passion and drama unpublished until then and that have contributed to maintaining the legend in the collective memory. In Verona, two young men in love, from two enemy families, are victims of a situation of hatred and violence that they neither want nor can remedy. On one of those summer afternoons when the heat "inflames the blood," Romeo, a newlywed secretly to his beloved Juliet, kills juliet's cousin. From there Shakespeare unleashes tragedy and precipitates events, guided by chance and doom.

La historia de Romeo y Julieta tiene antecedentes en la mitología y literatura griegas y en algunas leyendas medievales. Durante los siglos XV y XVI fue objeto de múltiples versiones, pero fue Shakespeare quien le infundió una pasión y un dramatismo inéditos hasta entonces y que han contribuido a mantener la leyenda en la memoria colectiva. En Verona, dos jóvenes enamorados, de dos familias enemigas, son víctimas de una situación de odio y violencia que ni desean ni pueden remediar. En una de esas tardes de verano en que el calor «inflama la sangre», Romeo, recién casado en secreto con su amada Julieta, mata al primo de ésta. A partir de ahí Shakespeare desencadena la tragedia y precipita los acontecimientos, guiados por el azar y la fatalidad.
