Hello and welcome to my Chesstournament!
I am a very big fan of anime and also a very big fan of chess, so I want to create a tournament to honor both of them. In almost every of my favourite animes chess takes a more or less major role. But chess scenes were imported in a lots of animes. But not only in those animes with a deep mind game backstory chess scenes can be found. Also in some comedy-titels or even in echi-titels and of course in openings and endings. Here are a few samples:
- No game no life
- Code geass
- Black butler
- xxxholic
- Konosuba
- Cowboy Bebop
- Highschool DXD
These are just a few examples of chess in animes. But there is surely so much more.
The major reason for chess scenes in animes are often to introduce a smart charakter. Another reason is to explain some difficult strategies or backroundinformations about something. Dispite of that, the actual game is in many cases not even shown or at least very bad executed. Like Lelouch in code geass who starts the game by moving the king as a synonym that the leader must go forward so that the people are able to follow. That might be true but its still a very bad move in a chessgame as you know.
But in this tournament I want to promote both, chess and anime as two wonderful things I really adore. As the opening I choose the opening from the first match in no game no life. A friend reconstruct the match and figuered out, that this opening was reffered to the match between Peter K. Wells and Habu Yoshiharu and was a Semi-Slav Defense: Main Line, Normal Variation opening. "Shoutouts to turbo802"
I wish good luck and fun to every participant and please feel free to share your thoughts about animes in the chat. I am always glad to here the diverse opinions about this topic. Maybe you know even better examples of chess in anime as I do. And finally I want you to forgive me that my english is not the best.
